Maintenance of Certification Summary

As part of annual certification renewal, 2021 marked the inaugural year of the 5-year recertification cycle (which runs January 1, 2021 - December 31, 2025). In addition to an annual fee, renewal also includes documentation of active DC licensure (or international equivalent) and completion of CE credits in the field of radiology. The ACBR requires its certificants to earn a total of 60 ACBR-approved continuing education (CE) credits each recertification cycle. The hours do not need to be evenly distributed and are pro-rated for those joining mid-cycle. Hours must be documented each year during annual certification renewal. Failure to earn 60 CE credits by the end of the recertification cycle will result in loss of Maintenance of Certification (MOC) status with the board. The MOC guidelines can be found here: Maintenance of Certification

A list of common CE activities and their equivalency hours are as follows:

  • Synchronous (live or online) Radiology Conferences (ex. annual ACCR workshop, CDI conference symposium) = 1:1 hours ratio
  • Asynchronous ACBR-approved CME or CCE courses = 1:1 hours ratio
  • Full-time faculty member teaching doctorate-level radiology courses = 6 CE credits/year
  • Adjunct faculty member teaching doctorate-level radiology courses = 3 CE credits/year
  • Post-graduate lectures, see MOC guidelines for complete details = maximum 6 CE credits/year
  • Resident training, see MOC guidelines for complete details = maximum 8 CE credits/year
  • Publications, original research, ACBR contributions, see MOC guidelines for complete details and hours ratios
